Chapel House

We are the only Sheffield City Council provision for meeting the requirements of ‘Ensuring a good education for children who cannot attend schools because of health needs’ (DFE May 2013) The curriculum is designed to work on both an Out-Reach and In-Reach basis.

The children who attend Chapel all have gaps in their learning due to their mental and physical health and the subsequent amount of education that they typically miss prior to admission. Our staff work throughout the child’s admission to try to identify and then address the gaps in learning as soon as they are well enough to be able to do so.

Our Out-Reach Young People (Y1-11) receive teaching combined with Learning Mentor support (dependent upon Individual need and health) in the home or through live online sessions, to support the transition back to education. Click here to read more about our 1-1, remote and bedside teaching offer.

Our In-Reach Young People come into our Centre (Y7-11) and we offer up to 5 hours per day depending on year group and need/health.

If our Y11 Young People are being supported during the formal examination period then we can host their exam and support their main school in setting this up.

Intervention

Intervention

Built into our timetable for all of our groups are intervention sessions. We offer a number of interventions to our young people dependent on their needs. These maybe academic interventions such as phonics, Mathematics or Reading; Psycho-educational interventions such as Mighty Minds or Autism and Me; Speech and Language interventions such as Chill & Chat or Games & Play or wellbeing interventions such as music group or creative corner. We also provide interventions such as Independent Travel training where required.

The interventions vary from day to day and half-term to half-term. All of our interventions are delivered by education staff but are quality assured by medical professionals to ensure they are meeting the needs of our cohort.
