ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER – Teaching, Learning and Assessment
(to be based at The Kenwood Centre)
Commencing: Jan 2022
Salary: L10 - L14
Together We Can
We are excited to be recruiting to this new post we have created in our senior leadership team due to continual growth. Becton School is an “Outstanding” school that is as unique as it is wonderful and as complex as it is caring. Over the past 4 years it has grown considerably and the number of pupils it supports has almost quadrupled. Initially Becton School worked solely with patients at the Becton Centre for Children and Young People, a residential Tier 4 CAMHs unit. However, we now encompass 3 other separate (and also complex) sites each working with a different cohort of pupils. The staff at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital work with patients admitted for a wide variety of medical needs. The Kenwood centre has just completed its 5th year and is a split site provision for pupils with Autism and Mental Health Issues (These pupils require an EHCP and are fully on our roll). Whilst the Chapel House supports pupils in Sheffield who are medically too ill to attend school, whether this is due to a medical or mental health condition.
This new role has been created to lead Teaching Learning and Assessment at the Kenwood Centre in what promises to be an exciting period of growth where we have recently expanded to incorporate an additional site. The pupils at Kenwood have often missed a large part of their education due to anxiety and although we know we cannot change our pupils’ past experiences, we believe that, by working together, we can influence their future by restoring their self-confidence, self-esteem, and giving them the resilience and tools to be able to cope in their chosen educational or vocational destination.
At Kenwood, the children are at the heart of all we do and we strongly believe it is our responsibility to provide a place where everyone feels welcome, secure and highly valued.
Our unique Kenwood curriculum frequently provides innovative opportunities and inspiring experiences, and encourages our children to be learners and become confident in becoming an active member of society. This is underpinned by the National Curriculum as well as wider opportunities, such as the Becton 25 and Duke of Edinburgh Award.
We are looking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher with a demonstrable track record of raising standards and the ambition, skills and experience to help lead a school offering challenge and opportunity in equal measure.
Determined, creative and motivated, you will be part of an SLT that consists of the Executive Headteacher, Head of School and Assistant Headteachers and will play a vital role as you bring your experience, vision and ambition that will establish high standards across teaching, learning, assessment and achievement within our school. We are looking for an individual to take responsibility for the whole school strategic development focused on raising standards in teaching and learning, including effective use of assessment and reporting to parents and other stakeholders.
The main aspect of the role will be to lead on the Kenwood Centres approach to teaching, learning and assessment. They will have oversight of quality assurance processes and will lead on a variety approaches to staff CPD. The successful candidate will work with our Head of School in terms of the Curriculum and alongside the Assistant Headteacher responsible for SEND.
You will have the desire to drive positive change, achieving maximum impact by working collaboratively with partners and key stakeholders, while promoting a strong culture of shared practice. You will see challenges as opportunities to make a difference to our children and young people and recognise that change requires a solution-focused approach; with the ability to see the bigger picture, taking a systemic approach to ensure success.
If you share our passion to deliver positive outcomes that continually transform the future of our children, this is your chance to make a real and lasting difference.
